The idea of Crystal Gallery, emerged from a group project (School of Art, University of Manitoba) in 2015. Crystal Gallery is an interactive public art project.

Model of Crystal Gallery
Crystal Gallery is an architectural outdoor gallery composed of snow and ice. The gallery will be build in a popular place (a bank of Red River) to reduce the distance and chasm between artists and their audience in contemporary art.
Moreover, the installations in the gallery will be unconventional. The gigantic body of the gallery is a piece of art itself, absorbing and embracing each artwork inside its body: every artwork will be placed inside the wall of the gallery as a part of gallery’s body, unlike a conventional gallery which is a kind of room with empty spaces, which are preserved to display artworks.

The scale of this gallery will be approximately 8(W) x 20(D) x 4.5m(H), and the one way aisle will be 2m wide and approximately 45m long. The gallery will includes three sculptures (a pyramidal ice sculpture with a metal sculpture, a geometric wood sculpture, and a relief sequel ice sculpture), and several 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional works including paintings, photographs, and ceramics.
This project is now put on hold until sufficient support including participants and sponsors are predisposed to finish. Hopefully this project can be launched in next year.
